How Much Is a Pip Worth?

In dollars, by asset and lot size. So you know what a signal’s “+50 pips” means for your account.

On Gold / Dollar, a pip is a 0.1 move in price, and one lot is 100 ounces.

Where it comes from

One pip times the lot size: on EURUSD, 0.0001 times 100,000 euros is $10 per lot. If the pair isn’t quoted in dollars (USDJPY is quoted in yen, EURGBP in pounds), that value comes out in the other currency and has to be converted to dollars at today’s rate: that’s why the tool asks for it on those pairs.

On gold, a pip is $0.10 of price and a lot is 100 ounces: $10 per pip per lot. That’s the convention used by the signal channels we measure. If your broker counts a gold pip as 0.01, its pips are worth $1 per lot and there are ten times as many: it’s the same distance counted a different way. Work out the lot size for a signal with the lot size calculator, and read more on what a pip is.

$10 per lot: a pip is 0.0001 and a lot is 100,000 euros. With 0.01 lots, $0.10. The same goes for every pair quoted in dollars (GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD).

Why does the USD/JPY pip value change every day?

Because the pip is counted in yen (0.01 yen times 100,000 dollars is 1,000 yen per lot) and has to be converted to dollars at the current rate. With the dollar at 150 yen, that’s about $6.67; at 140, about $7.14.
